This role will consist of managing a small team of Litigation Clerks and working closely with the credit control team, to ensure a robust legal service on behalf of the company regarding aged debt. You will also ensure adherence to court and departmental deadlines whilst maintaining responsibility for own ledger of accounts.

As well as allocation of accounts to appropriate Litigation Clerk on weekly basis, you will be responsible for checking and monitoring work arising from the litigation team.

The role will be a blend of supervisory/team lead duties as well as completing litigation work.

Duties include:

  • Review and implement processes and procedures and identify improvements
  • Create and maintain KPI’s and performance expectations for the team
  • Complete 1-2-1 reviews, recruit when necessary, drive performance standards, train, coach and mentor individuals
  • Manage a small case load
  • Negotiate settlements if possible
  • Deal with disputed debts, review individual case history prior to litigation
  • Preparation of court folders and documentation
  • Issue summons’
  • Liaison with company employees to compile witness statements and sequence of events
  • Attend court
  • Liaison with small claims courts and bailiffs regarding ongoing cases
  • Provide analytical data for management reporting of recoveries and cost of litigation

Technical Knowledge and Ability required:

Must have previous experience in a similar role with responsibility for managing a small team, preferably within a legal environment.

Relevant legal experience, ideally qualified to CILEX. Level 3 CILEX would be considered if accompanied by relevant supervisory and legal experience.

The salary offered is £25,000 – £30,000 per annum.
