An excellent opportunity has arisen at Signature Recruitment for a Credit Controller to join our client, a respected London University, on a full-time, temporary basis. The role is to assist the student debt team to fulfil this responsibility of controlling debt management and ensure that unpaid debts within the assigned area are chased for payment in accordance with the University’s credit policy, taking action where necessary to ensure that debts are kept to a minimum.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years’ experience in credit control environment, computer literate and able to communicate effectively. Credit Controller Key Responsibilities:

  • Be responsible for monitoring payment arrangements and extensions, where approved by the section supervisor, ensuring they are complied with and take appropriate action in the event of any default
  • Ensure that unpaid debts within the assigned area are pursued within University policy and procedures
  • Have a professional manner in contacting customers regarding outstanding accounts, with the ability to be sympathetic and understanding in sensitive situations, whilst ensuring a firm but respectful approach ensures payment is secured to agreed terms
  • Liaise with other departments, staff and third parties to resolve queries in a timely and professional manner
  • Ensure that correspondence and other queries received are actioned in a timely manner, and respond as required to queries from debtors or relevant members of University staff
  • Recommend to the section supervisor further action through County Court or outside agency where all previous efforts have failed to resolve the outstanding debt
  • Assist in other departmental duties as directed by section supervisor

Credit Controller Skills and Experience:

  • A minimum of two years’ experience in a credit control environment
  • Very good standard of numeracy and literacy
  • Computer literate, with ability to use computerised accountancy system
  • Create spreadsheets and word documents, with Microsoft Word, Excel and related databases, with ability to filter, lookup and interrogate large volumes of data
  • Experience of credit control in an education establishment
  • Self-motivated, with a confident telephone manner and ability to communicate effectively
  • The ability to contact students and outside organizations in a diplomatic, polite but firm manner such as to ensure payment in a timely fashion
  • Professional approach to work, well presented and reliable attendance and punctuality
