Job Description

Do you have experience of working in a customer service environment with strong communication skills? Are you looking for a permanent full-time role? Are you flexible and happy to work on a four-week roster including late shifts and weekends?

If yes, Signature Recruitment is looking for a Library Assistant to join our client, a Higher Education establishment in London. This is a permanent, full-time position of 35 hours a week and is fully campus based.

The role is about providing exceptional service within a dynamic library environment. The post holder will be expected to work flexibly to deliver a range of tasks in support of the front-of-house services in the library. You will start your day with a positive attitude, ready to collaborate with colleagues in delivering a high level of customer service, contributing to the development of outstanding reader services for all those who use the library. In addition, you will be confident using MS Office Suite and adept at picking up library-specific software. The role requires a high level of customer service, showing professionalism and the ability to handle challenging situations with grace.

Library Assistant Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring the library is organised and inviting by clearing, tidying, sorting, shelving, and re-shelving materials
  • Providing excellent service at all service points, answering user queries in person or remotely, and directing them to appropriate resources.
  • Logging overdue books and processing memberships and inter-library loans and documenting delivery requests
  • Contributing to digitisation projects and participating in collection management tasks. In addition, compiling statistics, generating reports, and updating the library catalogue
  • Participating in library tours, inductions, and general user education sessions
  • Other ad hoc administrative duties in order to assist the smooth running of the Library

Library Assistant Key Skills:

  • Provide a high level of service to all customers, staff and students. To be able to deal, on occasions, with challenging customers in a polite, firm but fair manner.
  • Good organisational skills with strong attention to detail when filing books
  • Confident in the ability to use IT and library specific software
  • Fit and healthy in order to comfortably deal with the manual nature of the role
