Job Description

Do you have good administrative and organisational skills? Are you experienced in working with students and possess excellent pastoral care? Can you build trust and rapport and are trained in mental health? If so, Signature Recruitment are delighted to be seeking a full-time Student Welfare Officer on behalf of our client, a prestigious University in London.

This is a permanent, Monday-Friday role (10 am – 6 pm) although there will be a requirement to work 2/3 weekends during opening and closing events per term. You will also manage escalated resident and/or house emergencies as required outside of these hours. You will live off campus in and will be provided with a supportive work environment in a beautiful London setting. Also to fuel your day, will be provided with both breakfast and lunchtime meals.

The Student Welfare Officer role will play an important role focusing on residential life. As a highly motivated member of the team, you will deal with administrative tasks such as assisting with reception duties, applications, and residential queries. Other duties include contributing to the social programme offering resident enjoyment, pastoral care, well-being, and holistic welfare. You will be confident with  involvement in the student’s well-being and when necessary with those suffering from anxiety and depression.

Student Welfare Officer Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead on administrative duties such as checking and answering emails, and telephone calls, dealing with residents’ queries in person
  • To assist the General Manager in resident care, room inspections, lettings, meetings, and marketing. Also to lead on inductions and departure processes
  • Independently plan, organise, and run events such as yoga, book clubs, arts, and crafts. Engaging students in an inclusive community
  • Confidently maintain accurate and up-to-date records, including resident notice boards. Circulate all relevant notices, letters, and information to students
  • Provide assistance, guidance, and advice to residents about all matters relating to studying, families and friendship issues
  • Competently deal with and manage welfare documentation

Student Welfare Officer Key Skills:

  • Excellent organisation with good time and diary management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to talk appropriately and thoughtfully to a range of stakeholders
  • Proficient in IT
  • Enhanced DBS and Mental Health Certificate as well as experience in dealing with young adults and mental health issues
