Our Client, a prestigious University within the West London area is looking for an experienced Department Manager to join them. The successful candidate will build and maintain strong working relationships with Professional Services staff across the university, assist the Head of Department with budgetary matters and ensure the planning and smooth running of the department’s education-related activities.

The ideal applicant will have a strong administrative background including basic finance administration, excellent communication skills, strong organization and time management skills. Department Manager Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the planning for and the development of the department, working closely with the Head of Departmental Operations
  • Work with the Senior Departmental Co-ordinator to ensure the operational aspects of HR, finance and research administration are carried out
  • Ensure the planning and smooth running of the department’s education-related activities
  • Work with key academic staff to support them in performing their administrative duties
  • Support the Head of Department with preparations for the annual strategic planning round
  • Assist the Head of Department with budgetary matters as required
  • Oversee departmental HR-related matters
  • Oversee the department’s education-related activities, ensuring the provision of excellent programme administration and quality assurance


Department Manager Skills and Experience:

  • Educated to a degree level (obtained a 2:1 or above)
  • Ability to prioritise tasks, work under pressure and efficiently manage workload to meet deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • High attention to details
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with an excellent standard of English language
  • Experience of leading and managing staff
  • Resilience, and the ability to deal with difficult situations
